About Craft Beverage Canning Lines

What Do You Want to Achieve?

When you're canning, your top priorities are to preserve quality and taste, maximize your product stability, and extend shelf life to protect your most valuable asset: your brand reputation. Your filling machine must enable you to:

  • Customize production parameters to your unique product specifications
  • Ensure proper hygiene to avoid product contamination
  • Achieve consistent fill volumes and minimize product loss
  • Limit Dissolved Oxygen (DO) levels
  • Maintain consistent carbonation levels
  • Achieve desired throughput
  • Deliver your freshest craft beverage to your customers
How do our Craft Beverage lines ensure quality?

For more than 130 years, PNEUMATIC SCALE | ANGELUS has leveraged our expertise in high-speed canning to innovate in the design and development of filling and seaming solutions. That expertise has enabled us to scale our designs to meet the needs of the many unique segments of the beverage industry, whether it’s craft brewers with lower speeds and comparatively small production runs, contract packagers with faster speeds and frequent changeover, or high-speed producers running at speeds up to 2000 cans per minute.

That innovation doesn’t stop with the speed of our machines, but extends our expertise in seam integrity, fast and easy changeover to facilitate running multiple products and containers on the same machine, hygienic design, and best-in-class filling technologies that lower your DO numbers, increase accuracy and mitigate product loss, and enable you to run across a wide range of carbonation levels to expand your brand portfolio.

In addition to leading-edge technology and engineering design, we take great pride in providing the best Service and Support in the industry.  Our dedicated technicians love their work, and thrive on not only problem-solving, but spending the time to help you get to know your equipment, learn how it works, and feel comfortable with its operation.  Our team believes every brewer we work with is an extension of our family, and you can expect quick response, technical expertise, and a familiar voice on the other end of the line any time you need a hand.

What makes our canning lines different?

Simply put, it's more than a century of experience in canning technologies and a commitment to innovation that sets us apart from our competition.

With our CB50F and CB100F open-air integrated canning lines, magnetic flowmeter technology ensures a perfect fill with minimal waste. Our gas flush systems keep dissolved oxygen levels under control, and our high-speed seamer design, scaled for single head operation, delivers the only repeatable hermetic double seam in the industry, extending the critical shelf life of your product.

If you want to run a higher carb product, from hard seltzers, to RTD cocktails, sparkling wines, and higher-carbonation beers, our CB50C counter-pressure machine employs six filling heads and a single-head seamer. The CB50C uses true isobarometric counter-pressure technology to allow you to expand into new markets and grow your brand.

Taking that a step further, our CBR Family of machines offers several configurations that marry rotary counter-pressure filling with rotary Angelus seaming in a compact footprint, that can run at up to 250 CPM.  The smooth, continuous motion transition from filling to seaming eliminates unnecessary agitation and unwanted reductions in CO2, while lowering the risk of costly can damage.
Open Air (Atmospheric) Filling Basics

In Open Air filling technology, product flows from a filler manifold into an open can. This process is suitable for low speed, linear production and is relatively simple to operate and maintain.  Open air filling is cost-effective and ideal for still and lower-carbonation products, but imposes limitations related to carbonation level, temperature, and pressure and is suitable only for products up to a threshold of 2.7 Vols (5.4 g/L). This method creates foam as a natural part of the filling process and requires careful management to maintain consistent production variables like batch temperature, pressure, and more.

Counter-Pressure Filling Basics

In Counter-pressure filling technology, product flows from a pressurized tank into a pressurized can.  This process is the preferred filling method for high-speed production environments, but easily scales for the needs of the Craft market, allowing for greater flexibility in product range, from still to high carbonation beverages, up to 4.1 Vols (8.2 g/L). This technology requires a slightly higher investment in filling technology and packaging savvy, but offers precise control over production variables by filling into a purged, sealed container and using easily-adjustable machine parameters (e.g., purge length, purge cycles). This method ensures a gentle, gravity-only fill and minimizes CO2 loss and DO pickup.
